The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Concord Motorsports, will be hosting inspections for the operation of Under-Speed Vehicles (golf carts), U...tility Vehicles or Mini-Trucks. The inspections will take place on Saturday, April 7th and 21st and on Saturday, May 5th and 19th form 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Concord Motorsports located at 8109 Crile Rd. in Concord Twp.
The inspections will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Office to help owners comply with the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s requirement to the Authorization form DPS 1373 completed after an inspection by the local law enforcement agency and before complying with Ohio title and registration laws. Please contact local law enforcement in the city, township, village or other jurisdiction for applicable laws.
Ohio Revised Code 4511.215 currently regulates the use of unconventional vehicles and states, by ordinance or resolution, a local authority may authorize the operation of under-speed or utility vehicles or min-trucks on a public street or highway under its jurisdiction. A local authority that authorizes the operation of under-speed or utility vehicles or mini-trucks shall do the following:
• Limit the operation of those vehicles to streets and highways having an established speed limit not greater than thirty-five miles per hour.
• Require the vehicle owner who wishes to operate an under-speed or utility vehicle or a mini-truck on the public streets or highways to submit to an inspection conducted by a local law enforcement agency that complies with inspection requirements established by the department of public safety under section 4513.02 of the Revised Code.
• Permit the operation on public streets or highways of only those vehicles that successfully pass the required vehicle inspection, are registered in accordance with Chapter 4503. Of the Revised Code, and are titled in accordance with Chapter 4505. Of the Revised Code.
• Notify the director of public safety, in a manner the director determines, of the authorization for the operation of under-speed or utility vehicles or min-trucks.
